PLAN THE RIGHT BACKUP

Generator service built around your home.

Start with what you want to keep running. The electrical load, generator capacity, transfer equipment, and installation location all shape the project.

01 / STANDBY POWER

Home generator installation

Discuss the electrical installation for a permanent standby generator, including how it will connect to the home and which loads it will support.

02 / SAFE TRANSFER

Transfer-switch planning

Match the transfer equipment to the generator and electrical system. Review automatic or manual operation as part of the proposed scope.

03 / EXISTING SYSTEMS

Connection assessment

Adding equipment or reviewing an existing backup setup? Share the generator and transfer-switch details so we can assess the electrical work needed.

YOUR BACKUP PRIORITIES

Essential circuits or a broader backup plan?

Some homeowners want to support a few important circuits. Others want a system designed for more of the home. The right approach depends on the equipment you need, its starting and running loads, and the generator selected.

We review the existing electrical setup and proposed loads before defining the installation. Fuel supply, placement, and any work by other trades should be coordinated in the project plan. If existing service capacity or panel equipment needs review, see our panel and service upgrade guidance.

WHEN THE POWER GOES OUT

Understand the transfer, not just the generator.

An automatic standby system is designed to detect a utility interruption, start the generator, and transfer the supported loads. The exact sequence and timing depend on the installed equipment.

UTILITY INTERRUPTION

The system detects the outage.

The controls monitor the utility supply and initiate the generator’s start sequence when required.

GENERATOR SUPPLY

Supported loads transfer.

The transfer device isolates the home’s backed-up circuits from the utility supply before connecting generator power.

UTILITY RETURNS

The system returns to utility power.

Automatic equipment transfers back after its checks, then follows the generator’s shutdown sequence.

GENERATOR FAQ

Clear answers before you plan the installation.

Tell us about your home and the equipment you want to support. We’ll help you understand the electrical scope and next steps.

Will a generator power my whole home?

That depends on the generator capacity, the home’s electrical loads, and the system design. We start with the equipment you want supported and assess the required capacity and transfer arrangement.

Does every generator start automatically?

No. Automatic standby systems and manually operated arrangements work differently. Confirm the operating sequence for the equipment selected, including what you need to do during an outage.

Why is a transfer switch needed?

Transfer equipment separates generator power from the utility supply. It helps prevent dangerous backfeeding and must be suitable for the generator and electrical system.

Can I use a generator I already own?

Send the make, model, output ratings, and any existing transfer-equipment details. We can review compatibility and discuss the electrical work before confirming an installation.

What should I include when requesting service?

Include your location, generator details if known, the equipment you want backed up, and photos of the closed electrical panel and proposed generator location. Keep equipment covers closed.

Do you provide immediate power during an outage?

Call to discuss your situation and availability. This page describes generator project planning and electrical installation; it does not promise immediate restoration or emergency response.

PORTABLE GENERATOR CONNECTIONS

Planning a GenerLink or portable-generator connection?

Tell us if you already own a generator or connection device, and share the make, model and output information if known. Photos of the closed electrical panel and proposed generator location, taken safely, can help us understand the request.

WEISS Electric LTD will assess the existing electrical setup, the equipment and the proposed connection before confirming a suitable scope. Customer-supplied equipment is reviewed for the specific property; an installation is not assumed.

What happens next?

Our office reviews your request, clarifies the equipment and loads you want supported, and determines whether a site visit is needed. We then confirm the next step and discuss any additional work before proceeding.
